Student's Society of Sahand University of Technology was founded
in 1997. In thoses days, the Iranian
students movement was not so strong and not independent.
From 1997 when Mohammad Khatami ellected as the
president, the students movement became the most powerful wing
of the "reformism" movement, which was leaded by president
Khatami.
Students' Islamic Societies in all over the country were in the
head of the students movements in
each university, and the
Union of the Students' Islamic Societies
of All the Country (called "daftare -e- tahkim -e- vahdat") was
the only student organization defending reformism ("eslahat") in
Iran.
But no longer everything changed. Khatami did not defend
students in the organized attack of the agents of the right wing
to the students in 8th of July, 1999.
Since then, the students began to organize theselves in
Students' Islamic Societies and a lot of students who didn't
want to be Khatami's SOLDIERS, took power in these organizations.
Students' Islamic Society of Sahand University of Technology is
one of them. We are collecting progressive students in it,
because there is not any legal independent organization.
